Solar & Wind Energy

Solar and Wind energy are one of the most prominent renewable energy resources that are underutilised in India. Even though major awareness needs to be created regarding the benefits of these energy resources, it is undeniable that their presence is seen around the country.

Wind energy is gaining prominence in India. The southern state of Tamil Nadu is India’s world leader when it comes to renewable energy. The turbines used in generating wind energy through grid-interactive power are divided into two namely Stall regulated and Pitch regulated. The difference between the two is that the rotor blades for stall regulated wind turbines are fixed while for pitch regulated wind turbines the blades change the angle of attack depending on the wind speed. With a combined installed capacity of 7.9 GW, Tamil Nadu is ahead of many countries in terms of green power. Scientists say that if necessary technologies are at the place then wind power is capable of supplying 20% of world electricity.

India has one of the fastest developing markets for Solar Power in the world. With a target of 100 GW by 2022, investments up to $100 BN is expected to flock to the countries Solar Market for its infrastructure development. India made tremendous advances when it came to developing solar powered energy implementations. In the year 2015 alone, 1 Million solar lanterns, 118,700 solar home lighting systems, 46,655 solar street lighting installations and 1.4 Million solar cookers were made available in India. With 5,000 MW, the state of Karnataka is the leading solar state at the end of 2017-2018
